Crown Resorts and Aristocrats Leisure Facing Lawsuit Over Slot Machines Being ‘Deceptive’

Aristocrat Leisure Ltd. As well as Crown Resorts Ltd. Are facing a lawsuit that will be filed Wednesday, October 26, 2016.  The lawsuit is alleging that these two companies deceived the patron gamblers due to the design of these slot machines, the lawyer for Maurice Blackburn stated.

This lawsuit will be filed within the Australian Federal Court and will center on the actual design of the slot machines that have contributed to slot players that were deliberately deceived on the actual prospect of the player winning.  This case is sought out by Shonica Guy, who alleged to have suffered major losses over the course of a 14 year span of playing these slot machines, also known as poker machines locally.

If this lawsuit is successful it will have consequences on the manufacturing design of all of the slot machines within the industry, stated Maurice Blackburn.

Crown Resorts stated that they will defend any claims vigorously.  While on the other hand Aristocrat Leisure which is the largest slot machine manufacturer did not respond immediately to the request for a comment on the situation.  Last month this company stated that it definitely discards any submission that the slot machines have been designed to inspire gambling problems.

About 17.6 billion dollars that Australian gamblers lost during this last year was actually lost in playing slot machines.  It has been estimated that around 400 Australians have committed suicide yearly due to problems that have been linked to gambling. 

This particular lawsuit is focusing on the slot machine “Dolphin Treasure” design that Aristocrat Technologies that is located in Australia, Maurice Blackburn stated.

There are approximately 2 thousand slot machines that are locally known as poker machines, located in Australia.  According to the government data that has been released one in every 6 people who play the machines on a regular basis has a very serious gambling addiction as well as losing on average 21 thousand dollars a year.
