G2E goes ahead as planned despite Las Vegas shooting

Global Gaming Expo (G2E), the world’s largest gathering of gaming professionals, opens at the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas today despite the mass shooting that took place on Sunday.

G2E Goes Ahead

Organizer of the G2E, American Gaming Association (AGA) and Reed Exhibitions, G2E partner, said early Monday that convention would open as planned on Tuesday.

President and CEO of the AGA, Geoff Freeman issued a statement yesterday, condemning the tragedy and sympathizing with the victims.

“The American Gaming Association and our Global Gaming Expo partner, Reed Exhibitions, are closely monitoring the horrific events that took place in Las Vegas earlier this morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with those that were affected and with the people of Las Vegas and Nevada.”

He added that safety is a priority and that they are working with the law enforcement and closely monitoring the situation. The deadliest shooting in modern US history took place Sunday evening when a gunman fired from 32nd floor and killed 59 and injured nearly 500 country concert visitors.

The MGM cancelled all of its shows on Monday night and police is present in all Las Vegas casinos because of this horrific tragedy.

Shares in Mandalay Bay Resort, from where the shooter fired on the crowd, dropped by 5.58 per cent according to Fantini’s Gaming Report. Freeman said that both AGA and Reed Exhibitions will offer its full assistance while the city recovers from this tragic event and give their best to honor the victims.

Betting Legalization Under Spotlight at G2E

One of the highlights of this year’s G2E will definitely be how sports betting legalization will play out in the US.

The US Supreme Court is expected to come up with the decision by the end of next June but industry players and a panel of experts will examine how states are preparing for a future without the federal sports betting ban.

Juan Baca, vice president of security and entertainment at the Sycuan Casino in El Cajon, California will host an hour long educational panel “Active Shooter: Violence in the workplace” which may receive some additional interest. Visitors of G2E will also enjoy seeing Magic Johnson, discussing life after NBA and more than 400 companies showcasing their technologies and products.

Curios players will be able to witness the release of many, brand new slot games, including IGT’s “Wheel of Fortune 4D”, and Arisocrat’s Madonna slot and “Westworld” we announced just last week.

The 17th annual event will run October 3 to 5 and is expected to attract 26,000 visitors. Being a place to make connections and introduce new gaming products, technologies and services, G2E is a place of emerging business opportunities.
