It may just be due to the fact we go through a lot of slots to bring you our reviews, but it feels like developers are really doing their best to think up of new and different themes that will keep players interested. Sometimes, it’s something relatively simple, like vampires, or sci-fi. At other times, you have ELK Studios’ 2018 release Platoneers, in which you follow three differently colored Bloopers from their previous game on a movie set fighting a giant mechanic snake. It offers simplistic, feature-heavy gameplay, some cool looking graphics and an RTP of 96.3% .
You play the game on a 5x4 playing field with 178 connecting paylines, as well as two special features. One of them has the chance to randomly bring forward one of three smaller bonuses, and the second one is a Scatter activated bonus during which the three Bloopers battle against a giant mechanical snake.
Let’s start with the more complicated of the two, and that’s the Snakes of Fortune bonus game. Collecting three, four or five Scatters rewards players with 15 ammo rounds, which are free spins, and depending on how many Scatters triggered the feature, you’ll have one, two or all three Platoneers shooting at the snake and dealing damage. When your Bloopers destroy bigger portions of the snake, it can award a coin win, give you extra attacks to use against the snake, refill your ammunition, or have a bomb that will destroy larger segments. The feature has three levels, which you progress through by defeating the snake on the previous level.
The second bonus is called Action Spins, and happens randomly during normal gameplay. It can spawn the Rocketeer, who will cover the first and third reel with identical symbols for a single spin, the Grenadier who spawns Wilds on the third, fourth and fifth reels for a single spin, or the Bullets Platoneer who takes a random symbol on the first reel, and ensures that at least one five-of-a-kind win with that icon is awarded.
How to Play
We can’t say we’re particularly amazed by the features this ELK Studios release had, but we can’t really say much to criticize them, either. They can award fantastic pays if you get the right luck, but they simply didn’t build as much excitement with us as some of the other bonuses did, which is a bit funny, considering the whole thing is set-up to be an action flick movie set.
You can wager between $0.20 up to $100 per spin, which is a nice spread that covers a great deal of betting options for gamblers from all walks of life. The largest jackpot you can win is worth 250,000 coins.
The game also has an Autoplay option, which simply allows you to set the amount of spins you want to do, with no added things like loss limits, win thresholds, or the ability to choose if you want the title to stop on feature triggers or big wins.
Strategy & Tips
Seeing as Platoneers is heavily reliant on its special features to reward bigger wins, you have to come into the title with a long-haul mindset. As such, make sure your budget will last you a fair few spins before you hit the bonus, and be prepared to wait out, as there is a small waiting period before the game will grant you another bonus reward.
