Ah family. We love them, we hate them, we want to give them a good thrashing sometimes, but they’re still family. It’s important to stay close to them, form meaningful bonds between each other – because while friends come and go, your family is forever. And so family is the core theme around which ELK Studios built their 2017 release, Sam on the Beach. The game has some gorgeous graphics with a stunning backdrop, rather realistic looking troll characters and fun, if feature-focused gameplay. The title has an RTP of 96.3%, which is above average for video slots.
The game is played on a 5x3 playing field with 243 ways to win, forgoing regular paylines. Players have the option of making use of two special features – a re-spin with sticky Wilds, as well as a free spins bonus activated by Scatters, which has four minor features on top of that to make things even more exciting.
Play Sam on the Beach
When you collect four of the family members – Sam, Sandra, Maggie and Ted all together during normal gameplay, they will reward a re-spin with four sticky Wilds. This feature can only occur outside of the other bonus, so you won’t be able to mix it in with the rest of the special features the title offers.
Collecting three, four or five Scatters rewards five, ten or fifteen free spins, with any additional Scatters during free spins rewarding an additional free spin. On top of that, when three symbols of one family member are present on the playing field during free spins, they activate their own mini-feature. Sam makes one symbol into a sticky Wild for the remainder of the free spins, Sandra gives out multipliers that can reach up to 8x, Maggie can harpoon herself and all lower paying symbols to increase winning chances, and finally, Ted leaves his crackling radio behind, which acts as a sticky multiplier, and can work in conjunction with Sandra’s multipliers.
How to Play
There’s really not a lot to say about the bonuses. We quite like the sticky Wilds re-spin, as it integrates mechanics into the theme, which isn’t something we often see in games. Still, the features are rather lucrative and rare, so make sure to use them to the best of your ability.
Players can wager between $0.20 up to $100 per spin, which is a balanced spread of bets that will allow casual players and serious gamblers alike to find a wager that suits them. The largest jackpot you can win is 227,520 coins.
The Autoplay allows you to select how many spins you want the feature to do, with no win or loss limits.
Strategy & Tips
You can use one of three pre-set strategies that ELK Studios offers you when you set your wager, but our personal recommendation is to simply bet safely, and wait for the features to hit. Make sure your budget can last you a while, as you’d have to be pretty lucky to hit a special feature really quickly.
