Romanov Riches is a video slot created by Microgaming that depicts the lost treasures of the late Romanov family. Though they once ruled all of Russia, the family met a bloody end after the Soviets took power. Of course, rumours of their immense wealth being stashed away somewhere always remained. Many have tried to hunt it down over the years too, with very little success. Do you have what it takes to lead an expedition and find their wealth?
The quality of Microgaming’s releases has been steadily degrading over the years and this game is par for the course. The background lacks any animations with parts of it clearly duplicated. Symbols design is bland as is the music track that doesn’t even bother hiding how often it loops. Special features include stacked mystery icons, re-spins and up to three bonus wheels worth of cash.
There’s really no distinction between high and low paying symbols in this slot. Mostly due to the fact all of them have incredibly low individual payouts. This is somewhat negated with bonuses, but those aren’t nearly as frequent as we’d like them to be. The icon designs themselves are a mixture of gemstones and playing card royals. A snowflake is Wild and can substitute all other symbols except for Bonus icons.
Romanov Riches is played on a 5x3 board with 15 fixed paylines. The layout will be familiar to anyone who’s ever played a Microgaming release before. The colours have been changed up so the user interface would fit in better with the background image.
The spin button takes centre stage with the Autoplay function to its right and the Max Bet tempting you from the left. Pressing the Autoplay button reveals a small drop-down menu that lets you select how many auto spins will be played. By changing their coin size and the number of coins per payline, players are able to adjust their wager. They can bet as little as $0.20, or as much as $100 for each spin.
Wins are granted when three or more identical symbols are collected in consecutive, adjacent positions. The icons must follow one of the 15 active paylines and must start with the leftmost reel. All symbols have to follow this rule, including Wilds and Bonuses.
Each reel has a stack of mystery icons that have a chance to manifest every spin. Not that you will see them while playing the game, but they can create stacked symbols to help you win.
Gamblers can also make good use of the re-spin bonus. You need at least two matching stacked icons to trigger this special feature! They also have to begin from the first reel, or else it won’t work. The triggering stacks are frozen in place, while the remaining reels re-spin. If your win expands, you get another re-spin, and if not, the bonus ends.
Collecting three, four or five stacked Bonus symbols, starting from the leftmost reel, activates the bonus wheels. Three, four or five stacked Bonus icons will trigger one, two or three wheels, respectively. The first and second wheel award cash prizes, while the third wheel grants a multiplier, up to 10x.
To be perfectly honest, Romanov Riches looks crappy regardless if you play it on desktop or mobile. You can enjoy it on your tablet or phone. That said, we’d personally recommend playing another slot.
