Golden Nugget Atlantic City refused to pay the prize for a total amount of $1 million to a group of successful gamblers in baccarat. The administration of the institution said that the cards were not shuffled.
On the 30th of April 14 gamblers playing in baccarat noticed that cards appeared in a certain sequence. Enterprising gamblers decided to raise bets from $10 to $5 000. Soon their remarkable luck attracted attention of the security service, which concluded that «some complicated fraud scheme was used».
Even after 41 handouts won in a row, the staff of Golden Nugget Atlantic City did not understand what was happening and allowed nine gamblers taking cash in the amount of $558 900. But the casino refused to cash the rest of the chip in the amount of $977 800.
When the casino has grasped the matter, the administration filed a lawsuit against gamblers with the requirement to return the money, as well as the lawsuit against Gemaco, the company manufacturing cards, which had produced defective cards.
However, three gamblers from China replied to the requirements of the owners of the casino with their own counterclaim, simultaneously accusing casino in discrimination on the grounds of nationality. One of the angry customers even said that he was woken up by the casino’s staff in the middle of the night in the hotel and his room was searched.
It seems that, misunderstanding has already developed into a serious legal controversy. Representative of the gamblers – lawyer Benjamin Dash explained: «Golden Nugget invites customers to participate in the games, approved and certified by the regulator of the state of New Jersey. My clients did so, and they were refused to pay the winnings. New Jersey’s law has absolutely no points, in which game can be recognized as illegal, if equipment was not able to shuffle cards.
