The richest man in Thailand Dhanin Chearavanont calls on the authorities to review laws on gambling business to improve the economic situation. During the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Commission on the securities and exchange of Thailand Dhanin took advantage of the situation and spoke in support of gambling business. In a country with a 67-million population 90% of citizens are Buddhists. The well-known spiritual teacher warned his followers against harmful habits, like gambling.

Despite this, Dhanin Chearavanont is sure that Thailand should take an example from Macau and Singapore, developing profitable gambling industry. Dhanin explained:

«Singapore has opened casinos quite recently. And today it is the third location of the gambling in the world in profitability with income of 5,38 billion a year. If Thailand opens casinos, it will become the world leader in this field. People are ready to give money for it, why not? We have to keep pace with the time».

The billionaire stressed that the opening of the gambling establishments will increase the flow of tourists in Thailand. Today tourism is the second largest source of income in the country, and opening of the casino will help to attract more visitors from other countries, spurring business of related industries.

«I propose the state to consider the question of opening casinos in tourist locations, such as Phuket, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, so that tourists can spend money more actively. You should not consider gambling evil, besides, the underground gambling long ago developed everywhere in Thailand. While there is absence of casinos in Thailand, gamblers are visiting Las Vegas and Macau,» said 74-year-old businessman.
